Annual compliance report

What is the annual compliance report?

AUSTRAC requires you to review your AML/CTF program every year and submit an Annual Compliance Report. The report covers the previous calendar year.

The first report covers 1 July – 31 December 2026 and is due by 31 March 2027. Reports for subsequent years cover January to December and are also due by 31 March.

What the review covers

Your annual review should assess how well your AML/CTF program performed during the year. At a minimum, it should cover:

  • Risk assessment — whether the risks identified in your program are still accurate, and whether new risks have emerged
  • CDD procedures — whether your client verification processes were followed consistently
  • Training records — confirmation that staff completed required AML/CTF training during the year
  • Screening results — number of clients screened, any potential matches reviewed, and outcomes
  • Reports filed — the number of SMRs and TTRs lodged (not the content)
  • Incidents and remediation — any compliance issues identified during the year and what you did to fix them

How to generate the report in AML Simple

  1. Go to Reports in the left navigation
  2. Select Annual Review
  3. Choose the reporting period
  4. Review each section — AML Simple pre-fills data from your account (clients screened, training records logged, SMR drafts saved)
  5. Add any narrative commentary in the open text fields
  6. Select Generate report

The report is produced as a PDF. On Professional and Agency plans, it is white-labelled with your agency’s branding.

Who signs off?

The annual report should be reviewed and signed off by your Compliance Officer or a senior manager with responsibility for compliance. It does not need to be submitted to AUSTRAC; it is an internal document you must retain.

Keep the signed report on file for 7 years.

Annual Compliance Report vs AUSTRAC submission

The Annual Compliance Report described here is your internal document. AUSTRAC may separately request compliance information via AUSTRAC Online. These are different things — check AUSTRAC’s guidance for any submission requirements that apply to your agency.
